With nearly 20 years of experience building engines for winning NASCAR teams such as Rusty Wallace, Darrell Waltrip, and Cale Yarborough, Harold Elliott knew what made engines run best. He founded his company, H.M.Elliott, Inc., in 1993 to coat his own engine parts and bearings. It has since grown into a thriving business, supplying coated bearings and providing a variety of coatings for engine parts to many of the top Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Camping World Series and NHRA Drag Racing Teams.

Elliott first began using coatings in the 1970s and immediately saw many advantages and much improvement in engine performance. Cale Yarborough was the first NASCAR driver to win 3 championships in a row - 1976, 1977, and 1978 - with engines built by Elliott. Darrell Waltrip won his first championship in 1981 with engines built by Elliott, as did Rusty Wallace in 1989, driving the Kodiak Pontiac. In 1987 when NASCAR downsized the cars from 3700 lbs. to 3500 lbs., Elliott was able to reduce the amount of heat generated by the engines enabling them to use a smaller radiator and less coolant, thus reducing the total weight of the car, by using the dry film lubricant coatings.
